Firas Albasry was born in Basra ( Iraq ).  He received a Diploma of the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts (Department of Sculpture) in 1977 and MFA in Sculpture and PhD from the Kiev State Art Institute, Ukraine in 1987.

Albasry is a Member of Society of Fine Iraqi Art; a Member of the Teachers union of Iraq; a member of the Iraqi Association of Journalists, writers and artists Democrats.

He is a founding member of the Iraqi Canadian Artists Federation. Firas Albasry lives and works in Toronto, Canada.

For the past two decades he has participated in  several successful personal and group exhibitions in Canada (London, Toronto, and Montreal), Iraq, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Cyprus, USA and Sweden.
